15 shades of grey

This post is almost certainly not going to be about what you think it is. When I moved into my house, I did a lot of basic DIY and painting. One of the things I wanted to do was paint the bedroom a pale/soft grey. I purchased a few testers, applied some to the wall and let them dry. They just weren’t right. I purchased a few more. Still not quite what I wanted. In the end I tried 15 shades of grey (paint) just to find the right fit for my bedroom.

It sounds crazy right but it’s totally true. None of them looked like I thought they would once they were on the wall, but in the end I have a colour which I love. Yes it was a faff, going backwards and forwards to the store to get the tester pots but it was 100% worth the time and effort. The picture below doesn’t (in my opinion) do the space justice. I decided to keep the feature wall with the patterned wallpaper as it was, but paint the other three walls. They were a pale but dirty blue. The grey walls really complement my furniture and accessories.

I guess the moral of the story is try lots of different colours and shades of paint before committing. If I’d gone with my gut, I’d have a colour I don’t really like on my walls. I’m not a patient person, I just wanted to get it all done but by taking my time to find the right colour, I am happier than I could imagine with that space. Yes it cost me a little more, because I had to buy more tester pots, but it was defintiely a good investment. I know to a lot of people it’s “just” painting but I am so proud of what I have achieved in my lovely little house. I really am looking forward to sharing more about my journey with you.
